The Rama are an indigenous people of Nicaragua, they are a warm people who are typically shy at first but are very welcoming to those who visit. The Rama are fluent in English, which was heavily influenced by the British in the 1800’s when they visited Central America. The nearly 700 Rama Indians live in the Atlantic-Coast region of Nicaragua, in the departments of Zelaya Norte, Zelaya Sur and Río San Juan. Only 15 or 20 people now speak the Rama language, although many more speak Rama Cay Creole. The Rama are hunters, fishers and agriculturalists growing mainly bananas and white cacao.

Nicaragua is friendly and diverse beyond most traveler’s expectations. From its 28 volcanoes to its towering mountain ranges to the diverse tropical forests that blanket many regions of this country, Nicaragua has something for everyone. The residents of Nicaragua maintain a fierce sense of national pride in the cultural accomplishments of their country. Nicaragua is the safest country in the whole region. “Nicas” or Nicaraguans are people you can count on, living in a land that offers much more to discover that anything else. The country’s passion for the arts, in particular for its poetry, is world renowned, and after visiting this dramatic landscape it is easy to see what has inspired so many writers. Nicaragua is a great destination for avid naturalists, birders, fisherman, hikers, coffee lovers and any traveler in search of surprises.

This was absolutely heaven on earth. My husband and I came here to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.The cottages are just gorgeous and so romantic.One day after our adventures on the golf cart, we returned to find our room filled with flower petals and a bottle of wine on the bed.
